Bible Story

THIS MONTH’S BIBLICAL THEME IS: God Gives Us Hope

God is faithful and fulfills His promises. As our stories this month unfold, we see God consistently intervening to help His people. He reaffirms covenants, liberates His people in miraculous ways, and shows His unwavering faithfulness. God gives us hope even when we are in times of darkest uncertainty. God is the Master Painter behind our lives!

Plagues

Bible Passage: Exodus 7-12

Focus Verses: Isaiah 45:7; Job 12:10; 2 Chronicles 20:6; Matthew 8:27

Summary: God sent Moses and his brother, Aaron, to Pharaoh to tell him to set the Israelites free. Pharaoh refused. God sent a series of terrible plagues on the Egyptian people. The plagues made it very clear that God is in control of all things. Pharaoh refused to let the people go until finally, God sent the worst plague of all—the death of every firstborn in Egypt. Pharaoh ordered the Israelites to leave as God freed His people from slavery.

What does God have control over? God has control over absolutely everything. He created it all and He is in charge of it all.

How is life different when we realize God is in control? We have hope because even when things seem scary and broken around us, we know that God is in charge. We can live boldly, without fear of our circumstances.

What does God want me to know about Him, and what does this mean for my life?Ask your child this question, answers will vary.

It is estimated that 8 percent of teens suffer from an anxiety disorder. Mental health concerns have grown exponentially since the COVID-19 pandemic. Kids are experiencing extreme amounts of worry and fear, which can occur when they feel as if their circumstances are out of control. Sometimes the struggle with anxiety runs much deeper than they can fix on their own. Signs of anxiety in kids might include worrying, talking about something obsessively, irritability, clinginess, fidgeting, or complaints of headaches or stomachaches. If your child struggles with anxiety, check out this helpful guide from childdiscipleship.com. In this week’s Brite lesson, kids will learn about God’s mighty power and ability to rescue. Pray that this understanding of God will be a comfort to all kids and a truth they can hold onto when anxiety strikes.

Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss at home:

Discuss: Do you think a lot of kids experience anxiety?

Discuss: What are some things that may cause kids to be anxious?

Discuss: What does God have to say about that?

Say: You may have heard someone say they had anxiety. Everyone feels anxious or worried sometimes. Some of us struggle with a lot of anxiety. Sometimes everything

feels out of control when bad things happen in the world or in our families. What does God say about anxiety? God wants us to remember that He is Lord over everything. He

is in control. He wants us to remember the good things He has done. Sometimes it can be really hard to control our thoughts or our feelings. When we feel anxious, God wants us to talk to Him. He wants us to pray and tell Him our fears. The Bible tells us that we can cast all our anxieties on Him, because He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7) When our anxieties feel out of control, it is good to let an adult know what you are feeling so they can pray and get more help if needed. When our anxiety feels out of control, we can talk to the One who is in control of all things.
